adventures in the capital city

friday i visited amsterdam. it was sunny and before we went to the museum we sat on a terrace at the herengracht. people were showing off their boats. one boat landed next to the terrace, the people did want to get 'ashore'. suddenly we heard a high pitched scream. one of the ladies fell back in the boat and it caught water. within 10 seconds the boat was beneath the surface. tourists on a tourboat took pictures. and my friend also (maybe he'll put some on his blog). fortunately the lady just in time grabbed someone and climbed up. a passing boat offered help by getting some of the stuff that floated in the canal. one of the guys took off his clothes and jumped in the water to get the rope of the boat. they tried to pull it up, but it was too heavy!

the sun lowered behind the houses and we went on to the van gogh museum. the exhibiton of egon schiele was very nice. they could have left out the things of other artists inspired by schiele, it didn't add anything. i missed some bigger (physcially) works, but maybe there's not much. he only got 28. egon was very inspired by klimt, but klimt doesn't interest me. schieles work is more subtle in a way. we also 'ran' past the paintings of van gogh, we had seen those already and were getting hungry.

so we concluded our day out at a tasty, intimate thai restaurant. we had fish cookies and vegetarian rolls as starters. after that he had shrimps and thai icecream for dessert, i took spicy pork with ginger and mushrooms and tea (and some of his icecream).

and i promised to do one thing because he knew amsterdam better then me (duh: he lived there a couple of years, but yes i took the bet so i should've known better) for winning this bet

i give richard 'eeuwige roem'.
